WHERE I DWELL

 

till death do us part they say 

it is not for a fainting heart I pray 

our loyalty is unquestioned 

our pride has been summoned 

our boots shined to reveal honor 

striped khaki that reveals patriotic color 

tell me beloved that you love me so I may return

even if it all burns, please do not mourn 

I have made my vow and my pledge 

while you sleep and snore at your bed’s edge 

I volunteered to keep watch with glassy eyes 

lying in the trenches with thousand flies 

my voice silenced so yours can be heard 

I need me to stay calm so you can be feared 

my joint aches but I lie still with passion 

count me in, I’m here for all the action 

nature has indeed accepted me and my flaws 

in her arms, I lay cozy within her claws 

no other comfort comes any close 

solace in her warm embrace till the sun rose 

I am but a man who has resigned to fate 

fighting for peace at any rate 

my psyche divided but accurate 

for every battle, I commensurate 

my days are numbered for I have outlived them

I am here for you but I reside in another realm 

I hope you have bade me a heartfelt farewell 

sooner or later, in your memory is where I will dwell
