DYING ISN’T TODAY
numerous stabs to an already punctured heart
aiming at my jugular with a thousand dart
you smile unapologetically when I wince in pain
a profound joy when I’m maim
a brutal kiss on my naive lip
hidden cuffs to have me clipped
fingers laced with thorns to caress my skin
a conspicuous bayonet to cut off my fin
a pat on my back to express your care
cajoling me to feel homely in your lair
I dine in your banquet of prejudice
still yet, you keep on rolling the dice
enemies within, enemies without
envious of you and everything about
aiming for your spark to extinguish
they see beauty when you languish
they question themselves when I’m victorious
still amazed as my voice is sonorous
left in awe as I’m outstanding
in all flights, I have a soft landing
my dying isn’t today
I still need to run a relay
the race I know is not to the swift
I’ll keep on focus on my drift
