I TRIED

 

“you are a man” they say 

get up and go to your bay 

even if it drips less sweat more blood as you toil 

you have to attend manly to the posted mail 

the world is unkind i hope you know 

no one cares how you pad your boat, just make it row

life’s current surge cares less of your emotions 

keep your hardship to yourself, even your notions 

I tried notwithstanding 

I tried steering the wheels while even standing 

the higher I fly is the further I fall 

my pains have built itself a muddy wall 

“you are a man” is sickening 

a certain age leaves you panicking 

like an atomic bomb dropped in your mind 

everything then feels odd and so unkind 

I am born of flesh and blood 

why distress me so much just to see me nod 

even sleep refuses to caress me at night 

it then takes a little alcohol to get that dream flight 

I am a man i understand 

let’s leave idiosyncrasy where it stands 

in me flows weaknesses, uncertainties and anguish 

at the end, it’s me, myself and I left alone to languish
