WERE YOU THERE?
listen to that clamoring sound
clouds suddenly gathers to run an outburst
aimless breeze sweeps through all foothpaths
here comes the dreadful rain
our spirits high as we await
our hearts in our mouth in unison
it’s gentle taps on the zinc roof propels our joy
our feet already itchy to race
it’s continuous peddling on the earth
petrichor sprouts, capturing our nostrils
the subtle sweet shiver when we inhale hitherto
our lungs begging for more of it’s aroma
alas! here it comes
the distorted drumming on roofs like djembe
my pulse beeps in synchronization
breeze flung door open as I leap into the ludus
already wet and muddy, I run in ecstasy
beckoning on others as we meet halfway
soaking wet in few seconds of threading
our joy knew no bounds
were you there? were you?
when joy resides in every heart
where peace rest on everyone’s shoulders
when it takes a village to raise a child
you were there, I’m sure you were
when we cry less but laugh more
the only pain we felt was eating an unripe fruit
the only injury we have was missing the ball and striking a stone
I was there, yes I was
returning home wet, muddy with mixed feelings
knowing that my fate tonight will be sealed with papa’s pankere
I will gladly accept my punishment amidst bitter-sweet tears of fulfillment
