THE BIRD I ONCE KNEW

 

you perched and curled up in innocence 

this beautiful bird I once knew 

easy and soft hearted as you were 

a soft mind and undoubted conscience 

your shinning feathers, artistically designed 

glimmering as it reflects on water surfaces when you glide

every other stops and stares in amazement 

your beautiful heart thuds lightly in sync 

 

you resonated with my spirit 

you flew into my arms and called it home 

this I never saw coming 

you kissed me and said “I call this home forever”

 

then I vowed to cuddle you through the winter 

made our shelter cozy and a little warmer 

created a tender world for your tender soul 

two hearts might not beat forever 

but you started when you discovered it

people’s appraisal sinked into your head 

those beautiful feathers have you pride 

and advantage for you to soar above the skies 

you’re no longer the bird I once knew 

cause you shook your feathers and flew away 

till date you lost those feathers 

now a total wreck with no face card
