LIFE’S LESSONS
she ran down the alley in fear
breathing heavily and gasping
she dipped her hand into her purse but felt nothing
her inhaler was part of what was robbed from her
slowly she sinked to the ground in despair
her heart beating faster as she gradually lose air
she knew someday, this asthma will be the end of her
and here she is, at the crossroad in the dead of night
air already short, her chest bulging
slowly she closed her eyes, never to be opened again
the bullet hit him in the gang shoot out
he barely escaped from the scene
blood already streaming through his chest
eyes already going squint as he struggles to keep up
he dragged himself towards the neighbors trash can
falling heavily on the bins, faced up
his life flashes before his eyes as a tear drop
he knew it’s over already, he no longer feel his legs
“I’m sorry mama, I’m sorry I made you cry”
his eyes slowly shut as the whole world goes silent
on her hospital death bed she lay
reflecting slowly on how she spent her life
as proud as she wasn’t, she cried slowly
regretting the opportunities she turned down
the road she refused to thread
regrets and anguish overwhelms her
she slowly turns her head and gaze through the window
the sky is blue and birds are hovering
“this is the perfect time to die” she said
she slowly stretched her weak hand and switched off the life support
after the first beep, she didn’t hear the next
