OUR UNIFORM, NOT A CURSE
in silence we die each day
smiling to our uniforms in pain
a call to service in penury
a little protest is labeled mutiny
a death sentence is your penalty
forgetting you carried all duties perfectly with dignity
is it a crimes to ask for a better welfare?
meanwhile, those at the top are well fed
allowances are denied without a second thought
country doesn’t cares if you sweat and rot
a standing order you dare not disobey
if dem nab you, you go know say true true death dey
conspiracy they call it if you want to agitate
our ogas walk in steeze while we depreciate
a call to service can turn “call to glory”
no one is best, nobody holy
our uniform is a major pride for only those at the top
nobody cares about us below even if we drop
our only compensation is a 21-gun salute
you’re dead and gone, there’s no part 2
our families live with their hearts in their mouth
knowing they may be called that we died in a bout
what compensation will they get that’s worth our absence
this military package design is crazy, full of non-sense
you dare wake up to talk to someday, you’re dead
your body go chop am wotowoto when you bend
for how long shall we continue to live like this?
a retribution for their souls, not peace
they say a faithful soldier reward is in heaven
no one has been there, we only hear in telly
why don’t we all get similar rewards here on earth
I doubt that fate each day when I’m in debt
our uniform’s not a curse
a proud soldier we are in this force
can’t our lives be a little better
we don’t ask for much, we dare not write it in letter
