PICTURESQUE
we all smiled, yeah!
we smiled as we chorus “cheese”
the flashlight flooded our eyes
as we all cheered and hail to the moment
moment that will never return
yet still, we posed with our best stance
believing this moment will stay forever
our joy knew no bound
the house… Bay street, Georgia
the hood of black community in synchronic
all hopes were never lost to freedom
our melanin made us distinguished
but time, a daredevil and a killer joy
smiled and whispered to us “weep for thyselves”
with it’s sharpest note, sinking into us
engulfing us with a brief sobering moment
still we ignored
transfixed and savoring the moment
ignoring even nature and tiniest wonder
“this moment is ours” our hearts partied
we mistook its actual meaning
but as the years rolled by
it was glaring, for some images began to fade right there in the photo
gone, never to be replaced
slowly and slowly we fade out of formation
in the photo, not leaving our shadows behind
but memories to reminisce with
would that be enough?
time, a reaper and a killerjoy
stealthily repositioned our poses
look at us now, scanty
someday, we all will never be remembered
