PAID MY DUES

 

I’ve paid my dues 

when all the sweats of yesterday now speaks volume 

when all my toils have laid the foundation 

I now bask in smiles 

I’ve paid my dues 

when I wake up smiling 

realizing how much I have sacrificed 

just to be where I am today 

I‘ve paid my dues 

in the midst of youthful exuberance I bent not

focused solely on my hustles 

ignoring the rhetorics of the world  

I’ve paid my dues 

when I gracefully walk in the midst of men 

they all chorus “here he comes”

“the architect of our successes”

I’ve paid my dues 

when I know grace speaks for me 

an uncommon favor not everyone taps from 

but it abides with me unflinchingly
