THE CHAIN DRAGS
distorted foot print tracks
multiple stamp on the bloody Mother Earth
peeled flesh litters the ground in parkour
souls exiting bodies before call time
in a straight file we marched in chains
our cries rend the skies
the gods must have been on vacations
or fascinated by captor’s skin color
amidst the torment and torture we sang
songs of rescue and bitterness as the chain drags
believing the heavens will open and our savior will descend to our aid
such a hopeless hope we clutched on to
sun scourging, skin burning
chain drags as she languishes in my front
an already heavy pregnant woman
bounded in the same chain right at my front
despite her cries for labour
she remained ignored and tortured still
flogged still to pace up anytime she slows down
her tummy, so bulged and ready to pop
the more she groans, the more she’s been whipped
till she couldn’t take it anymore
she halted, squat and labored in dire pain
all eyes were on her
you dare not run to assist her
that may be your last earthly race
sweats dripping hard, her face already red in pains
in no time, the baby pops out and fell to the ground
they cut off the unbiblical and push her back in line
with a hard kick, they sent it flying
the innocent baby rolled down the hill
tears was never enough on everyone’s eyes
journey continues as she staggers
walking wobbly as her bleeding never stops
in few kilometers, she passed out
her body abandoned by the road side to die
without remorse, without humanity
we were catered away without pity
never to return
never to see our motherland again
