REQUIEM

 

I tried but my arms couldn’t reach 

couldn’t grab her and preach 

I tried everything possible to stitch 

her already broken heart abandoned in a ditch 

a once upon a time bright heart 

pretty, sweet with an alluring teeth that is white 

she was strong, bold and always flying high like kite 

the light of her family, intelligent and bright 

have you met her before?

you would know all these if you have a rapport 

despite her family was poor 

she’s outstanding knowing she’s the cure 

she works hard to make all ends meet 

before cock crows, she’s already on her feet 

she needs to feed her aged parents and siblings who are kids 

on this unfaithful day, she followed the wrong lead 

but we all know how it is with life  

it sometimes brings us nothing but strife 

anger, bitterness, pains, draining our energies, leaving us dry 

We can’t be happy always, some days, we cry 

she was run over by a drunk driver 

zoomed off after he hit her 

lying helpless on the floor, no one to lift her 

unconscious for hours till she took her last breathe 

see how life can be cruel 

despite all her battles and duel 

just to make her family better again 

she was buried without a coffin, died in pain
