THE WONDER YEARS
It alright to lay still for a long time
Picturing memories as they hits hard
Striking cords in your emotional world
Transporting you to another zone
But as a child, what do I know?
I had no regrets, just fearless as the wind
Breezing through everywhere
With none to fear
We played in uncompleted buildings
Hunting lizards and squirrels
Playing police and thief
Hide and seek
Making paper boats and placing it in a flowing stream
Making paper planes, light up the butt as we fling it in the air
Watching it crash land
Making mouthful sounds of it's explosion
Going into the bush to hunt for grasshoppers
Plucking pawpaw or cashew
Stepping on soldier ants
Regretting why you were born
Dancing in the rain
Feeling the heavy lashing on your skin
Drinking hot cocoa drink after
A sense of achievement runs down your spine
Walking slow by the dump site
Hoping you will see coins or toys
Well, you might be lucky at times
But luck don't come by easily
Getting home looking pretty rough after school
Uniform brownishly coloured under arm
Emitting horrible stench
Picking your nose and eating them
Rolling tyres and plastics covers up and down the street
Wearing torn shorts with multiple holes
Feeling wild and free as the smile runs deep
The wonder years in memories
