EDGE OF TOWN

 

it’s a place I found 

on the edge of town 

boys all dressed in angelic white 

happy and singing songs to a thousand Friday nights 

with a love so bright 

and smiles shown so right 

they cheer and shouts for joy 

too giddy as their happiness vibrates all around 

hand in hand they sway 

throwing legs and stomping feet 

grooving to the sounds they create

contagious aura surrounds their terrain 

they switch movements mysteriously 

intermittently lock their necks before vibrating to a new flow 

a beautiful scene to watch 

an alluring gyration 

everyone passing by either joins or beam with joy 

a calabash passed and a liquid poured from a gourd 

the taste of this emu is unique I must confess 

who am I to say no to this almighty ajabale 

as the drummer switch sequence 

an ecstasy ran through our veins 

such overwhelming feeling I’ve never felt before

could this be the promised paradise?
