UNBOTHERED

 

like a flower waiting to bloom 

a skull shape pendant on the neck of a groom 

a truncated world is a reshaped destiny 

mind porous with terrible iniquity 

the insignia of grief 

our lives shredded like beef 

the unimaginable becomes imaginable 

evil suddenly becomes capable 

the birds echoes no more from their nest 

eyes shuts no more, no time for rest 

danger lurks even more than darkness 

evil rules, they have everything to harness 

the wise and sane men are unbothered 

they look away from bloody cries from voices from the gutter 

instead of action, they say “let’s pray”

our resolve is a caricature abeg, we have all become the prey 

silence means consent you know 

perpetrators have fortified their coast 

inextricably connected like maggots in a pale of shit 

suffocating the system, leaving none to breathe 

when will oppressors feel oppressed? 

when will transgressors feel depressed?

our sanity has been over taking for a ride 

like too much chores imposed on a bride 

unbothered as the oppressed are 

mounting podiums and using prayers as weapon of warfare

religion will be the end of us in Africa 

a potbellied athlete, hoping to outrun a fast car
