AFTER YOUR FUNERAL

 

after your funeral 

never believe people’s solemn acting 

as some are crying bitterly 

their gaze is fixed on the food caterer

making sure the tray don’t pass them by 

after your funeral 

they empty the bottles of drink 

look around for more 

and when they don’t see, they complain 

lamenting and cussing without shame

after your funeral

they will clean up their tears 

rinse their hands in bowls 

chunk down a bowl of eba and wipe their hands clean 

saying to themselves “the meat is not even sweet”

after your funeral

they leave one after another 

still acting their sober mood 

but their minds are elsewhere totally 

you are already forgotten 

after the funeral 

they keep wishing you willed your clothes to them 

your shoes and jewelries 

even your most priced possessions

overall, your beloveth spouse  

after the funeral 

your debtors will leap for joy 

your creditors will stay sober

those who depend on you will go numb

and after a while, they discover another helper

after your funeral 

the mouth that refused to eat because of mourning will taste a morsel

the eyes that is swollen due to tears will rest easy 

the lips that no longer smile while give it back a try 

whoever said will follow you to the grave will call himself stupid 

after your funeral 

days will come, weeks and months will fall in place 

some people have already moved on 

your side of the bed will no longer be cold 

someone else will warm it
