DEAR SON II
it’s me again
the branch you sprang out from
heed these words diligently
write them on the tablets of your heart
“age is just a number” wisdom whispers
never be concerned about people’s age
help them if you can
accord respect to everyone
many are dead and gone
died tragically on something avoidable
their souls will know no peace in the grave
regrets will eat up their bones
I ain’t saying I am perfect
I tried living a blame-free life
I am proud of lots of things I did
that is why I lived in peace
dear son, i may be drunk or sober
but listen to these words when you’re older
happiness is the best medicine
but most people lose it because they wallow in sin
I know someday, my great great grandchildren
will wake up and yank my photo off the wall
lol, that’s fine, they recognize me not but I’ve played my part
I was their rite of passage, mission accomplished
stories are told to those who crave for it
their ears itchy, minds on the edge of suspense
be open minded each and every day
the only time we stop learning is when we are dead
carefully select your cronies
they are the ones who will fuel your destiny
one bad apple in the tray soils the rest
your close friends are a true reflection of yourself
be slow to anger, don’t be hasty to judge
not all expectations comes in right container
not everything you pray for will actualize
God has helped you filter the thorny ones
I pray each day you grow in God’s love
just as your mother’s love is pure
may you elude pride always
never give it a chance or a tiny space
dear son, it’s me again
the branch you sprang out from
heed these words diligently
write them on the tablets of your heart
